Director of Sales (Albertson's/Kroger)

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS ROLE IS AT AN INTERNATIONAL BRAND LAUNCHING INTO THE US MARKET IN 2027*

Responsibilities:

Help build U.S. sales organization and go-to-market structure from the ground up, operating in an entrepreneurial environment without an established U.S. commercial infrastructure.

Own and develop key national and regional retail relationships, with an initial focus across either 7-Eleven, Kroger, and Albertsons, while also supporting broader regional sales development based on geography.

Develop a detailed, hands-on strategy for entering new channels, including identifying the appropriate brokers, distributors, retail partners, and other resources needed to successfully launch and scale the brand.

Expand distributor network beyond its existing relationships, including identifying strong regional beverage distributors as well as navigating retailer-mandated distribution partners where applicable.

Support the initial U.S. launch of 9–10 SKUs across unsweetened and fruit-flavored teas, with additional beverage categories expected to follow over time.

Lead retailer presentations and sell-in efforts by developing a compelling story around the brand, product portfolio, market opportunity, and available sales/consumer data.

Work cross-functionally with the broader U.S. and China-based teams while helping determine what resources, tools, data, brokers, distributors, and future team members are needed to scale the business.

Operate as a true builder within the organization, remaining hands-on and comfortable taking on responsibilities outside of a traditionally defined Sales Director scope as the U.S. business evolves.

Help shape the future U.S. sales organization, with the potential to eventually lead Key Account Managers and/or broader regional teams as additional hires are made.

Candidate Profile:

Strong food, beverage, or broader CPG sales experience, ideally with recent experience in the highly competitive U.S. beverage market.

Direct experience with one or more priority customers/channels in Albertons/Kroger

Demonstrated experience building distribution and entering new channels, rather than relying solely on pre-existing buyer relationships.

Strong working knowledge of brokers and distributor networks, including the ability to determine which partners to use, why to use them, and how to manage those relationships effectively.

Highly hands-on, tactical, and execution-oriented - less focused on candidates who have recently operated only at a high-level strategic or executive capacity.

Systematic and logical thinker who can clearly walk through how they have solved problems, entered channels, selected partners, and connected resources to achieve an objective.

Comfortable working within ambiguity and limited existing infrastructure; excited by the opportunity to help create the structure rather than inherit an established one.

Concise and thoughtful communicator who listens carefully, identifies the core question or issue, and responds directly with clear examples and details.

Recent experience is especially important. The team would like to understand what candidates have accomplished over approximately the last three years, given the significant changes and increased competition within the U.S. beverage market.

Strong tenure/stability is valued where it demonstrates that the candidate has had enough time within an organization to build, execute, and show measurable results.

Entrepreneurial and growth-oriented, with interest in potentially expanding beyond a traditional sales scope as organization builds its U.S. organization.

Candidates do not need to come from the largest CPG companies; individuals from smaller/emerging businesses who have personally built channels, distribution, and infrastructure may be particularly relevant.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
