Pay Range: $24.36 to $42.13 per hour. Pay rate offered will depend on experience. Typically do not start new employees at the top of the pay range, but there is a lot of room to advance and grow with this position.

Equipment Operator I: Pay Range: $24.36 to $38.97 per hour.
Equipment Operator II: Pay Range: $25.08 to $40.13 per hour.
Equipment Operator III: Pay Range: $26.33 to $42.13 per hour.
Will be required to serve on-call as needed.
Summary of Overall Purpose of Position: Under the general supervision of the Streets/Storm Drain/Solid Waste/Landfill Superintendent, operates heavy equipment for the construction, maintenance and emergency operation of the roads within Payson City limits.
Qualifications Special Qualifications: All levels: Must be able to respond to emergency on-call situation within 30 minutes.
Licenses/Certifications: All levels: Possess a valid driver's license. A valid Utah Driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
Equipment Operator I:
Education and Experience: ▪ High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses/Certifications: ▪ Possess and maintains throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsements within 6 months of hire date. ▪ ATSSA Flagger Certification ▪ First Aid/CPR Training ▪ Confined Space Training ▪ Trench Shoring Training ▪ Snow Plow Training (Required within 12 months of hire date) ▪ Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least one (1) of the following types of heavy equipment: skid steer, backhoe or loader by an accredited training organization (i.e. Utah LTAP within six month of hire date, remains on probation until acquired. ▪ All accredited certifications must be kept current. Failure to do so may result in loss of position.
Equipment Operator II:
Career progression, employee moves to Equipment Operator II when the following requirements have been met:
Education and Experience: ▪ High School diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year as Operator I or equivalent experience. Licenses/Certifications: ▪ Possess and maintains throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and hazardous material endorsements. ▪ ATSSA Flagger Certification ▪ First-Aid/CPR Training ▪ Confined Space Training ▪ Trench Shore Training ▪ Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least two (2) of the following types of heavy equipment: backhoe, loader, skid steer, grader, dozer and/or excavator ▪ Possess at least two (2) of the following certifications: Pesticide Applicator License, Trenching and Shoring, Confined Space Entry certification, American Concrete Institute certification or Utah LTAP Asphalt Maintenance certification. ▪ All accredited certifications must be kept current. Failure to do so may result in loss of position or demotion to Equipment Operator I.
Equipment Operator III:
Career progression, employee moves to Equipment Operator II when the following requirements have been met:
Education and Experience: ▪ High School diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years as Operator II or equivalent experience. Licenses/Certifications: ▪ Possess and maintains throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and hazardous material endorsements. ▪ ATSSA Flagger Certification ▪ First-Aid/CPR Training ▪ Confined Space Training ▪ Trench Shore Training ▪ Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least three (3) of the following types of heavy equipment: backhoe, loader, skid steer, grader, dozer and/or excavator ▪ Possess at least three (3) of the following certifications: Pesticide Applicator License, Trenching and Shoring, Confined Space Entry certification, American Concrete Institute certification or Utah LTAP Asphalt Maintenance certification. ▪ All accredited certifications must be kept current.
