Partner with engineering and product teams to define scalable, maintainable microservices architecture using domain-driven design and distributed systems principles.
Design and implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka (or similar), including asynchronous messaging, event sourcing, sagas, schema management, and service integration.
Define architecture for mobile and backend integration, including data modeling, offline synchronization, conflict resolution, BFF patterns, and API design.
Standardize containerization with Docker across development, staging, and production environments.
Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes to ensure scalability, resilience, and high availability.
Design and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS using services such as EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/ Aurora, Lambda, and API Gateway.
Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or AWS CDK/CloudFormation to automate provisioning and support GitOps.
Establish best practices for security, resilience, observability, and operational excellence across microservices and event-driven systems.
Ensure architectures meet security, compliance, and HIPAA requirements through encryption, access controls, audit logging, and secure configurations.
Prototype and validate architectural solutions through spikes and proof of concepts to reduce risk and align with business goals.

Support onboarding and enablement of engineering teams on architectural patters, tools, and standards adopted by the platform. Design and evolve complex, distributed software systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and alligned with the company's strategic goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science or related field coupled with 8+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 4+ years in a Solution Architect, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role designing and delivering complex, distributed production systems. Previous experience in highly regulated industries with strict requirements around data privacy preferred.
Expertise Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming in large-scaled production environments.
Experience designing, building, and operating GraphQL APIs, including schema design, authorization, performance optimization, pagination, caching strategies, and resolver/federation patterns.
Experience with event-driven architecture and Apache Kafka in production: topics, partitions, consumer groups, exactly-once processing, schema registry/Avro/Protobuf, dead-letter queues, and integration/messaging patterns.
Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL strongly preferred), NoSQL, caching strategies (Redis), and thoughtful data modeling for distributed, eventually consistent systems.
Ability to design offline-first or hybrid online/offline mobile architectures, including robust synchronization strategies, conflict resolution, and Backend-for-Frontend patterns.
Knowledge of security architecture in distributed systems and resilience/observability patterns.
Experience with containerization, container orchestration, and modern cloud-native deployment practices on AWS.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code and familiarity with GitOps workflows.
Experience rapidly prototyping architectural options and making pragmatic, data-driven technology decisions.
