BAKERY/DEPT MANAGER ON DECK

About the position

This role involves completing a 4-12 week training program to prepare for a department manager position. The program includes travel within the division for training and relief assignments. The primary focus is on creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and achieving sales and profit goals for the department. The manager will oversee all department functions, support daily bakery operations, and embody company core values while promoting teamwork and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a 4-12 week training program in preparation for a department manager position.
  • Travel within the division to train and provide relief.
  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals established for the department.
  • Monitor and control all established quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the department.
  • Support the day-to-day functions of the Bakery operations.
  • Embrace full, fresh & friendly and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
  • Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals.

  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.

  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
  • Inform and educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special in-store promotions, especially those affecting the Bakery department; stay current on present, future, and seasonal ads.
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department.
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties.
  • Complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
