Mover - Swamper / Team Lead

ABOUT HALCYON

Halcyon Logistics Inc. is a growing BC moving and logistics company.

We currently operate four specialized moving brands across British Columbia:

Vancouver Island Movers
vancouverislandmovers.com

Sea to Sky Movers
seatoskymoving.com

Piano Movers BC
pianomoversbc.ca

Pool Table Movers BC
pooltablemoversbc.ca

We're still a small team, and we're looking for reliable movers ranging from strong Swampers to experienced Team Leads who want to grow with the company and help us build a high standard of field operations.

THE ROLE

We're hiring for multiple positions within our moving crews.

Depending on your experience, you may join us as a Swamper, Mover or Team Lead.

Swampers and Movers work alongside the crew to safely wrap, carry, load and unload customers' belongings.

Team Leads take additional responsibility for organizing the job, directing the crew, communicating with customers, coordinating with dispatch and making sure the move is completed safely and professionally.

Regardless of position, this is hands-on work. Everyone on the crew is expected to contribute.

Moving doesn't always go according to plan. Tight access, difficult furniture, inventory changes, delays and customer concerns happen. We're looking for people who can stay calm, use good judgement and help find a way forward.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Work on residential, commercial and specialty moves

Wrap and protect furniture, belongings and customer property

Safely carry, load and unload furniture and boxes

Help plan efficient truck loading and unloading

Disassemble and reassemble furniture when required

Use moving equipment including dollies, straps, blankets and floor protection

Maintain a clean and organized truck and work area

Communicate professionally with customers and other crew members

Follow direction from Team Leads and dispatch

Help solve problems that come up in the field

Complete jobs safely, efficiently and professionally

Experienced Team Leads may also be responsible for:

Reviewing jobs and planning the approach before work begins

Directing and organizing the moving crew

Driving company 1-ton and 3-ton box trucks

Completing vehicle pre-trip inspections

Handling reasonable customer questions and on-site changes

Coordinating with dispatch when important issues arise

Completing job documentation and customer sign-off

Training and coaching newer movers

SPECIALTY MOVING EXPERIENCE

We also operate dedicated specialty-moving divisions through Piano Movers BC and Pool Table Movers BC.

Additional pay may be available for candidates with proven piano-moving or pool-table-moving experience.

We're particularly interested in movers who have experience with:

Upright and grand pianos

Pool Tables

Candidates with strong specialty-moving experience may qualify toward the higher end of our pay range depending on skill level and responsibilities.

OUR VALUES

Resourcefulness – Figure it out.
Moving rarely goes exactly according to plan. Assess the situation, use good judgement and find a solution.

Honesty – Tell the truth.
If something goes wrong, tell us. Mistakes and damages can be dealt with. Hidden problems usually get worse.

Ownership – See it through.
Take responsibility for your part of the job and help the entire crew deliver the move properly from start to finish.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Previous moving experience is preferred, particularly for Team Lead positions.

You'll likely be a strong fit if you:

Have residential or commercial moving experience

Know proper wrapping, protection and furniture-handling techniques

Are physically capable of moving work throughout the day

Are reliable and punctual

Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers

Can take direction and work effectively as part of a crew

Stay productive without needing constant supervision

Are resourceful when something unexpected happens

Take responsibility when something goes wrong

Care about doing the job properly

For Team Lead positions, we're looking for candidates who are also comfortable directing crews, making decisions in the field and taking responsibility for the overall move.

DRIVING

A driver's licence is an asset for Swampers and Movers.

For Team Lead positions involving driving, applicants should have:

Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence

Clean driver's abstract

Experience operating 1-ton or 3-ton box trucks

Confidence driving larger vehicles in urban, residential and highway environments

PAY & GROWTH

$19–$28/hour, plus customer tips and commission on eligible services sold in the field.

Starting pay depends on your moving experience, demonstrated skill level and the level of responsibility you're able to take on.

Experienced movers, capable Team Leads and candidates with proven piano-moving or pool-table-moving experience may qualify for higher starting pay.

As you develop your skills and take on more responsibility, there will be opportunities to increase your pay and move into Team Lead, specialty-moving and broader field leadership roles.

WHY JOIN HALCYON?

Grow with the company
We're building Halcyon for the long term. Strong performers will have opportunities to take on more responsibility as the company grows.

Build real moving skills
Our crews handle everything from standard residential moves to long-distance, piano and pool table moves.

More responsibility means more earning potential
Movers who can lead crews, drive trucks or handle specialty work can progress toward the higher end of our pay range.

Help build the operation
We're still building our field team, giving experienced people the opportunity to help improve how we train crews, organize jobs and operate in the field.

SCHEDULE

Moving schedules vary.

Some jobs may involve early starts, longer days, ferries, long-distance travel or work outside your usual service area.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Our hiring process has three stages:

1. Behavioural Assessment
Shortlisted applicants complete a short online assessment focused on judgement, communication and work style.

2. Interview
A conversation about your experience, work ethic, moving skills and how you handle situations in the field.

3. Paid Trial Shift
Final candidates work a paid trial shift with one of our crews so we can assess practical skills, teamwork and overall fit.

INTERESTED?

We're looking for people who take moving seriously and want to become part of a growing operation.

Whether you're a reliable Swamper looking to develop your skills, an experienced Mover, or someone ready to lead a crew, we'd like to hear from you.

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?
