Career Opportunity: Warehouse Manager

Fort St. John, British Columbia

If you're a hands-on leader who enjoys managing warehouse operations, developing employees, maintaining inventory accuracy, and building strong customer relationships, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As Warehouse Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operation, performance, and success of our Fort St. John Distribution Centre. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead a small team of 2–3 employees and oversee the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of the warehouse while maintaining a high level of customer service.

This role combines operational leadership with customer relationship development. In addition to managing daily warehouse activities, you will work closely with the sales team to strengthen customer relationships, support existing accounts, and identify opportunities for business growth.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership, leads by example, and is comfortable being hands-on in all aspects of a smaller warehouse operation.

What You'll Do

As Warehouse Manager, your responsibilities will include:
  • Lead and supervise a small team of 2–3 warehouse employees, providing direction, coaching, and support.
  • Manage the daily operation of the warehouse, including receiving, shipping, picking, packing, deliveries, and inventory control.
  • Lead by example and remain hands-on with day-to-day warehouse activities.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, inventory investigations, and scheduled physical inventories.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient warehouse environment.
  • Ensure warehouse equipment is properly maintained and operated in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Coordinate closely with Customer Sales & Service Representatives and the delivery team to ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and customers receive timely, reliable service.
  • Take ownership of customer service issues and work with the team to resolve concerns quickly and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local customers through regular visits and ongoing communication.
  • Support sales growth by working with the sales team to strengthen existing accounts, identify new opportunities, and increase IGD's presence in the Fort St. John market.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate purchasing requirements, shortages, and other operational concerns to the General Manager.
  • Manage employee scheduling and ensure appropriate coverage for daily operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, productivity, and customer service.
  • Participate in special projects and company initiatives as required.
What We're Looking For The successful candidate will have:
  • Previous warehouse supervisory or management experience, preferably in a wholesale distribution environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a small team.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to participate in all aspects of warehouse operations.
  • Experience with inventory control and warehouse management systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and make decisions in a smaller branch environment.
  • A customer-first attitude with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Sales, account management, or business development experience considered a strong asset.
  • Solid computer skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • A proactive approach with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer visits, meetings, and company initiatives.
Work Schedule This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Occasional flexibility will be required for inventory counts, customer visits, meetings, and special projects.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
